Well if that's the case, how do they issue the driver a ticket and know who's driving? Especially a team truck?

There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. but at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You have to live - did live, from habit that became instinct - in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized...

LOL. If you can do it and find a cheap excuse such as "Oh... I don't know what happened to the darn thing" it simply changes little if anything.

The log books are supposed to protect the public from over-fatigued drivers killing people as well as us drivers from merciless dispatchers/brokers pushing the clock backwards. The most I hate about ELDs is that I might be forced to subscribe to some Qualcomm or such so that they can suck a hundred bucks from me as a monthly subscription. I have a feeling that the smartphone apps won't be enough to comply. I hate to think someone can profit in the name of safety, just like them DEF manufacturers do in the name of clean air.

Either ELDs or paper, there's always a way to circumvent it. Too many capable, hardware savvy, hackers among us. It was not for too long for them to figure out how to delete dpf and def systems and change ECM program ala Volkswagen. Therefore for the Law Enforcement, the infrared devices will be the only verification. I had a few of inspections at different scales with these cameras and I never had anyone checking the cameras record. So my initial thought was that they mounted them for fuel tax purposes more than anything else. I was wrong it seems. But it is good to know for the most of us what technology they have at their disposal so you are not surprised by those camera pictures.
