IMG_5371.JPG IMG_5380.JPG IMG_5383.JPG I've never been here on my cell phone before. I took pictures to help others to see what is envolved. Newer Volvo Engine harnesses. The part bolted onto to block Volvo refers to as a swivel. They use some sort of epoxy to form an oil tight seal. The failures I have were due to not getting the wires seperated and/or oil free. One attempt the sealant could be slid back because wires were oily and it never sealed them. The thing on the outside is not a connector or plug it's just a 90° swivel. Splicing it would require good solder shrink tube methods. One of them had what looked like factory splices where it went into the engine harness/"vectro" cover. Neither were older versions. I believe the cut off is 2002.

it's impossible to splice right at the head what you can do is change the wire one by one redo the epoxy and splice them in the box that's how they used to do it dont know if you can buy the extension harness anymore if you need one i think i have one laying around my shop was supposed to install in a truck but it got totaled and never returned the part i dont know if it is still available but it was a ##### to do like that as well works really well just a ##### to do, the other way i have done it is fill the drain hole with silicone where the harness sits after letting the oil seep out over night and making sure it's clean and dry, let silicone sit overnight that should get you abotu 6 month if done properly i've gotten it down to just replacing the #### harness it's not an unreasonable amount usually pay like 800 from volvo and if you do the labor yourself its not that bad and you are set for at least a couple of years.

If you wouldn't mind looking for it I would be interested in buying it. Even a part number would be appreciated

Problem is that they do not make the splice for yours mine is for a 2004 and up with the injector plugs, my price from volvo for your whole engine harness is 766 and they have three in stock labor shouldn't be that bad to do yourself since old ones are not complicated at all just depends if you want to keep the truck or not.

UPDATE As I posted before my "PASS THROUGH, where the injector comes out of the head/valve cover was referred to as a "swivel" and what is on my engine did not match later versions i collected "Dumpster Diving".I have acquired 3 such "BAD" engine harness for spare parts, connectors etc.

So mine is an UNCOMMON? swivel type that allows the pass thru to swivel/rotate where it exits the head. On a 2000 Volvo VE D-12c @ 465 hp, and that I didnt need to reseal the wires. An O-Ring would solve the oil leak.

4 hour hours labor and an O-Ring is all it took

Remove and reinstall Valve cover, dismount wire harness, disconnect Injectors, my injectors have threaded stud elect connections, clean the passthru hole and surrounding area reassemble.
    O-Ring p/n 949656 $3.74

I have also had this problem tried the splice fix, also took head off and replaced rings and seal didn' last long
Finally role down for the engine harness replacement and was around 2500 by volvo have not had a problem since wires were shorting and causing all sorts of electrical problems after dealing with it for a couple hundred thousand miles threw all different codes from irratic data to all 6 injector codes, multiple others and since replaced all have gone away.
However dealer that replaced it broke the coolant clip and don' know if it can be re pinned in a new connector ? And am now having coolant criticaly low warnings pop up and shutting truck down on a hard left turn so don' know exactly what to do about that
But other than that new harness was diagnosed by multiple volvo dealers in multiple states. So I did it as I didn' want it to go or get me stuck on the road somewhere.

Will the newer splice harness for a D13 work on a D16. I have a 2008 VT and it's basically pouring oil out through the wires. Someone epoxied the wires in there at one time so getting them out to replace the gasket is impossible. I have seen lots of D13 splice kits, but don't know if the wiring is the same or not. Any help would be appreciated.
