I am a current CDL student and looking into local trucking companies. One company I am looking into has a Fatigued driving score of 89%, well beyond the DOT threshold. I have spoken with a few drivers for this company and they all seem to be very happy there. So, my question is, how much should this score weigh in my decision making process?
Thanks

Well i believe that the 89% is in relation to those driver's that have been inspected not 89% of the entire company.. I would say to listen more to the driver's and make your decision that way

It's YOUR cdl,
what's it worth to you ????? -
Here is the link to the company I referring to...

You should look at the report in total. They ARE over the threshold, with SIX violations in the last 24 months. You could ask the safety director about them.
Now, they only operate 51 units. Both OOS violations happened this year. It is your choice, but proceed w/ caution, and get as much information as possible.GyrrwrLori Thanks this. -
4 violations for log book general/form and manner...could have been something simple as not signing the log page at the beginning of the day, which is a gray area, enforced differently by different LEO's in different areas. Some think the law requires the log page to be signed at the beginning of the driver's "day", some want it signed at the end. I always signed as I closed my log page.
2 false reports of driver's record of duty status...could also have been a gray area. Because paper logs are done in fifteen minute intervals, there is room for LEO "interpretation", that may be "interpreted" to the advantage of the LEO, and his department's budget.
The only one I see as being an issue is the 5/2/2011 inspection report, which has a 11 hour violation, a 14 hour violation, a general/form and manner violation, and a false report of driver duty status. And all of these were more likely the driver making the decision to violate the rules rather than the company "pushing" the driver. 23 overall inspections and one bad apple, is not a "bad" company in my mind.
I'd look more into the vehicle maintainance scores and unsafe driving scores. Maschhoff has good scores in both (41.6% vehicle maintainance and 3.5% unsafe driving), and the vehicle maintainance citations were predominantly Mickey Mouse BS.GyrrwrLori and DragonTamerBrat Thank this.
