The changes in the medical card system came about because of the "do it yourself" and phony medical cards.
Keep that "inspection kit" stuff up and they will make big changes in the Federal Annual Inspection system too.Giggles the Original and Autocar Thank this. -
I dont think it is legal, you have to be certified for the brakes portion of it (I do believe). I wouldnt recommend doing that if you were ever in a wreck and it was found out that you done the inspection they would cut your throat!
-
So im qualified (REQUIRED) to inspect my brakes everyday but Im not qualified to do it on the day that I do my annual?
Real Deal Thanks this. -
I don't think a DOT/CVSA inspection would cover the annual inspection that Texas requires on all Texas registered vehicles for that nifty trapezoidal shaped sticker.
-
Just seems like that is what I have read in my regs book......Hopefully "scalemaster" will be back on today to clarify what I am thinking.

THis is straight from FMCSA website
[h=3]Inspector qualification[/h]Motor carriers must ensure that persons performing annual inspections are qualified. Inspectors must:
[h=3]understand the inspection standards of Part 393 and Appendix G[/h]
- be able to identify defective components
- have knowledge and proficiency in methods, procedures, and tools.
[h=3]Inspector training or experience[/h]Inspectors may have gained experience or training by:
[h=3]completing a State or Federal training program, or earning a State or Canadian Province qualifying certificate in commercial motor vehicle safety inspections[/h]
- a combination of other training or experience totaling at least a year.
[h=3]Evidence of qualifications[/h]Motor carriers must retain evidence of an inspector's qualifications until one year after the inspector ceases to perform inspections for the carrier.

Never heard of having to be ASE certified to inspect anything, could you post a link where I can read up on that?
ThanksRickG Thanks this. -
Depends on the state inspection regulations, if you need just a federal inspection and you have experience under this link guild-lines it may be possible.

But to cover yourself I would not do a self inspection for legal reasons, if you were ever in a accident a lawyer would pick it apart and you would be on the short end of the stick. -
Yep, getting rid of those DOT Medical Forms kits, from the truckstops, sure did cut down on the number of physicals done by Dr. Feelgood in the truckstop resturant.
