Okay, I guess I missed that video. Now that does impress me. If your getting around 40 miles with just 4 watts, then all I can say is good job, and a great mobile set up. It would of have been a neat test, if you would of bumped the power up to the 30 watt limit, just to see if he could hear you better when asking about his location. Then I guess it would help prove that sometimes, just an extra 20 watts or so is all it takes to get the job done. Anyw

Oops, I bumped the wrong button. I was just going to say, anyways thanks for the video Rabbi. Sorry for the extra post.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
You won’t talk 30 to 40 miles around here mobile to mobile even with the best antenna. Too much interference. Now I can talk 70 or 80 miles to a set of five element beams 120’ up from my mobile and my setups are tuned correctly. Maybe on a clear night on flat land I could do it mobile to mobile running power.

In a major City where there's all kinds of other electrical noises and microwaves going on you maybe lucky to only get out 3 or 4 miles, but get out away from the City's, and you would be surprised at just how far you can talk on a 4w radio.Night Stalker10, shogun and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -

Okay, very good. Sounds like we were basically saying the same thing but on a different wavelength ... LOL. Yes definitely location, terrain, band conditions, antenna mount location etc, effect the distance especially on 11 meters. Somehow I missed Rabbi’s video using 4 watts, so that was my fault. It was definitely an impressive contact. -
Rabbi, was the 4-Watt Anytone test done at 40 miles?
I listed to the recording but the weak reception and fading signals did not seem to allow the other party to say where he was in relation to you. -
Meteorgray Thanks this.

Talking 35 miles with 4 watts is outstanding performance alright. It sounds like line-of-sight transmission mode, since it seems to me that other forms of surface wave propagation would be too lossy for 4 watts at 27 MHz. Maybe?

He wouldn't have noticed my signal otherwise.
