It still takes a fair amount of amperage to activate the solenoid.
Notice the size/gauge of the trigger wire.
It’s that big size so it can carry enough amperage to activate the solenoid.

Ok. Gotcha. The picture in the first post is the signal wire. It seems pretty little... compared to the 2 awg wires straight from the battery

Possible, I'm not saying you did but something to check before you dig deeper. Corrosion is also a possibility, high resistance will still show battery voltage if you tested it disconnected on your initial test. So if you had a bad spot in the wiring, the new starters extra current could have burned it to the point of totally open, so it's not show any voltage now.

When testing voltage, it's always best to check for voltage drop when the component is activated. When testing an open circuit, anything connected to battery + will show battery voltage, no matter what the resistance is. Same for ground, bad grounds can test good in an open circuit, but show some voltage when current is flowing. Just like the water analogy, a restricted garden hose will show full pressure with no water flowing.

Ok thanks for that. The initial test I ran this morning was with the trigger wire still attached the the old starter solenoid. It was 0 volts then with key off, and then when activated by the key switch it read 12V.

Fast forward to after the new install. When the solenoid didn’t engage, I tested for voltage when it was still hooked up (in the wrong spot), measured 0 voltage - then of course I took it off and tested the bare wire after cutting the eyelet off

Thanks. I read that too, mine came with one. The three install options are starter to starter (both without relay), starter to starter (both with relay), and starter with attached relay to starter with separated relay...

But not one for, starter with no relay to 39mt starter with attached relay... or maybe I’m over/under analyzing it... but it seems the starter with the attached relay needs the signal wire straight to the relay - because the relay is all ready connected to the solenoid I now see...

** never mind option C applies to me **
