    What’s going on you all? Thanks for the help; I got the motor started.

    I made my first YouTube video over it. I can’t believe Youtube didn’t have a. N14 starter video

    ... I hooked the new starter up wrong; may have fried my truck starter relay. Replaced the starter relay, hooked the starter up right and, thumbs up

    YMMV, but I haven't had much luck with that starter on an N14

    First one kicked out the starter gear while my driver was idling in the cold a few hours after install and chewed up the flywheel pretty good.

    2 weeks later replacement died while in a dock. Went back to the old heavy style and no more problems.

    One of my part guys sold me on the Delco 39 new, he’s been trustworthy over the years, and he told me he’s sold over a hundred of those with no returns;

    Yeah... I did a lot of othe research before getting it too... it seems like every starter is no good and every starter is pretty good...

    Every time I found something good about a 42 mt , I would find reviews of people saying they were only getting a year or two out of it. And same thing for the 39 mt

    But I did read on here about someone who said he replaced his whole fleet with 39 mt starters and they’ve been running strong for 10 years now!

    It was confusing on which to buy... maybe I go get a 42 mt for back up and keep it with me

    I put a 39mt on my cat about 4 years ago. I did have to replace the top magnetic relay once, but otherwise has been trouble free.

    Biggest killer of starters is weak batteries. A starter will always draw X amount of watts. If battery voltage is low, the starter will suck more amps to compensate. Amps = heat. Heat = dead starter.

    That's what the 39mt is, a gear reduction starter.

    HopeOverMope and beltrans Thank this.

    I swapped out my old 42mt for a 39mt about this same time last year and it's been a good starter so far.

    I've got 4 of theses 39mt starters out on the road and oldest one is 8 years old.. no problems at all. At half the weight of a 42mt there sure nice to install too.!

    HopeOverMope Thanks this.
