I drive an 1987 ford l9000 that did not come from the factory with a stereo. I have some ideas on how and where to install but would appreciate any input from someone that has done something like this before. the wiring in these trucks is very simple, so I should have no problem finding a live circuit and one that is live with the key on, I a pretty sure I have enough room to cut a hole in the dash to install the stereo receiver, The biggest problem is where to install the speakers. I think I can install them in the doors, but would definitely need to insulate the doors better. I could also build a box, but the cab is already pretty crowded. any suggestions?
Installing a stereo with no factory stereo wiring?

Just run a small gauge two wire from your stereo to your speakers, where ever you decide to mount them. You can look for overhead units made for farm tractors and machinery.

Look for something along these lines. -
This looks on the right track. I do want the stereo receiver in the dash if possible, Only because I dont want to be reaching over my head to adjust it
-
You could mount it on the back wall.

These wouldnt look bad mounted in your truck. http://www.heavydutyradios.com/hds3000.html

that actually looks pretty good, however, as I said it is a 1987 ford l9000, the first thing you think when you look at it is UGLY, but it gets the job done, and I spend a LOT of time driving it in the winter hauling salt, so I want some good tunes in it.

Today all stereo's are your standard single DIN or double DIN. Cutting the right size rectangle in the dash shouldn't be an issue as long as you make sure there are no obstructions behind it. They do make a single DIN under dash mount.
The B+ Hot I would run to the fuse panel. There should be an extra slot with a single male plug in. You just have to probe for an accessory HOT.
As far as the speakers go I would pull the door panel off and see where the window is when it's in the down position. Then put you some decent 6 1/2" speakers in the front lower part of the door below the downed window. Take note on what speaker depth you can get away with. When you purchase speakers they will give you behind and above mount depth in the specifications. You might have to shop a little if you need shallow speakers like 1 7/8" depth. Mounting the speakers on the outside lets say a 6" hole would be about a 2 1/2" above mount speaker depth or similar. Then you put the grill on top. I just put some Polk Audio's in my car and it made a huge difference.
Here's some ideas.

Ebay and Amazon you catch good deals. I won a $150 Kenwood stereo on a eBay auction for $15. Now that I have the stereo and speakers I want an amp. -
I got you an amp condo cruiser lol. I have 2 10" Memphis subs but I don't think my co will let me run them. Darn it
