I need to put an electric brake controller in my tractor. I've put a few of these mostly in small trucks that had a brake switch on the actual brake pedal. With air brakes, my international doesn't have any switches on the actual pedal or housing. Does anyone know where you can tap into the electrical system on an air brake vehicle to connect to the controller? There's a lot of wires under there and I hate to stark poking stuff to find a brake wire. I know they make controllers that you actually hook up to the air lines that will actuate under pressure. I prefer to use an all electric unit as it will only be used occasionally.

Depending on the year, the brake light switch switch should be on the brake valve on the engine side of the firewall. It looks kinda like an oil pressure switch, just threaded into the brake valve block. Connection would be the same as a regular brake switch, but ideally you should put a 5a or so fuse on the wire to the controller in case it shorts going through the firewall.

8600 will be multiplexed. The stop light circuits to the tail lights also share the turn signal so you need to tap into the trailer or body stop circuit for that. The relay will be outside at that power distribution panel that is mounted on an angle near the firewall over the left fender depending on what year this is.

I'm going to mess with it next week. Hopefully I can find something to tap off of. The truck is a 2010 if that helps. Any more help will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, yours is newer than I though. Should be a bit easier. All your relays are in front of the passenger seat. Pull that cover off and locate the "trailer stop" relay. You can tap into wire A70T, which is a 10 gauge red wire.

    giannid Thanks this.

I need help installing an electric brake controller on a 1982 International S1854. I need to know where to tap the the red wire out of the controller into. I know it's for the cold side of the brake light switch, but I'm having trouble locating a wire on this truck to tap into. Can anyone help me with this. Thanks, Corey Moody
