Just need some advice from some experienced and mechanically inclined drivers.

I have a 2002 Volvo d12 engine that has 385 hp. Apparently, Volvo can’t increase hp because of my transmission. My question is, is it safe to install a turbo to help increase the power? Or are there other alternatives. What can I do? At this point, I’m sick of dragging my ### every time I’m pulling anything over 35k. While literally every other driver is effortlessly flying past me.

That engine has a turbo on it already.

If you have a weak transmission, maybe you should upgrade that before you add more power to the engine?

You need to find a different dealer. They can bump it up. If you are on FB there is a group called Volvo Truck Master. Few guys can bump it up. 465hp might be the maximum.

There isn't the support like a S60 or Cat to make big hp for Volvo's in the US.

Different transmission... If you are really dragging ### maybe you ahould look into changing out rear end gear ratios... Once upon a time 400 hp was a big engine.

Any recommendations on the type of transmission I need? As far fear ratios. Or can I solve my problem with just adjusting mine for a cheaper cost.

What at the current specs of the truck? Ie transmission number and rear end ratio. For the minimal amount of Hp/tq you are gaining it's BS that the transmission cannot handle the bump up. If you abuse the machine it will definitely break but if you drive it responsible it's gonna last. Screenshot_20210211-105744_Drive.jpg

Your truck already has a turbo. Maybe you mean bigger turbo. Well that will only make the truck weaker unless you change the injectors and tune it. More air means you need more fuel. You will have serious turbo lag. Second, I computer tune will definitely not require a more powerful trans, that is silly. With a stock motor and a tune, you will not gain much torque at all. Hp yes. But hp will not be breaking a trans. If you want a few more ponies, than just get a tune
