I never know how good these government cats are at catching people. Does anyone know just how astute they are at catching a clever driver with a fibbing log?
A scalehouse is not a big deal. An investigation of a 30 day period or more with all supporting documents is pretty tough to smooth over if you do 4000 miles a week. I think it comes down to resources, not what's possible for them to do.
That just depends on the situation. Are we talking about a Federal DOT Audit, or a road side/scale house random inspection? If it's a Fed audit, they'll go over all your paperwork with a fine tooth comb. You're allowed a small amount of missing logs, but I don't have a clue what the percentage is. If you were involved in a fatality accident, every DOT/FMCSA official and lawyer imaginable will scrutinize and scrutinize and scrutinize your paperwork, up to and including your cell phone records. When they're done with that, they'll get a finer toothed comb and do it again.
Throwing myself on the mercy of the court, I think! I'll probably freak out and light my truck on fire, say my very good and perfectly legal logs were in there.
I'm afraid that's quite a possibility. I gotta figure out which is cheaper... getting busted or believing I only needed to retain 8 days worth of logs.
