I live in New Hampshire and got my New Entrant Audit about 8 months after getting my authority. The DOT officer showed up at my house and told me I had him for 4 hours and could ask ANYTHING without repercussion. He went over all my paperwork. He did not compare logs and receipts. He made sure I had a certified driver report, application from myself to myself, drug test consortium, driver test given by me for me!!!, log book, maintenance records and a bunch of other stuff. He did find some things wrong and wrote them up. No fines and I had 30 days to correct and prove. We then took a ride down to my truck and he did a thorough inspections which I passed 100%. He also explained some very interesting rules about refusing to submit to many cases where DOT officials come knocking at your door when off duty. Pretty much tell them to go pound sand until you come back on duty. They cannot ask you to do ANYTHING and need a warrant from a judge to force you to comply with anything when you are off duty. He also talked about drinking in the cab when off duty. All in all it was very pleasant. He's there to help you and make sure you are 100% in compliance to protect yourself.

That is a great story. I doubt every officer will be as nice as the one you dealt with. I'm finding a way to prepare for the worst.
For starters you can look at companies on this forum but do not believe all you read... Take it all with a grain of salt as they say. Get online and look up the company. All the good things and all the bad things will be posted. Talk to some of their drivers in person and again take it with a grain of salt. What works for some will not work for others. Do your homework and when you talk to the company about working for them, have a list of questions that you want to ask. Important things like, salary, benefits, hometime, equipment, the list is endless. Don't be afraid to ask. Believe me they will ask what they need to know and won't be the least bit shy about it. One very important thing is do NOT lie. I'm not saying that you do but sometimes people lie on applications or directly to the employeer and that's the kiss of death. It might not be found out right away but it will and that might be the end of a great job. If they do keep you, you will have lost all credability. Good luck.
Uhhh, the jerk store called... Good thing it takes about 30 years to read through this thread. Pharm, you got 30 years and 6 months, I guess. I hate you and think you'll be out of business by this weekend.
After sitting it out this week, I'm inclined to agree! I was assigned 6 loads between now and Monday though... so lots of catching up to do.
