The big boys know why they are charging 30%. I think 10% is a bit shallow considering the infinite possibilities. The MVR of the driver is important, as are any other safety details.

The big boys are also assuming all of the risk. They find the loads, they offer the loads, the pay the support staff, they pay the advertising, light bill and physical building, they bill and collect the invoices/payments, in most cases they supply the trailers, and...this is a big one....... they pay the operator 30 to 90 days prior to recieving a dime for the delivered load. That's why they are the big boys, and me, I'm just a little guy...... for now. :biggrin_25525:

You will notice also that they have an accept/denial way of signing trucks on. It's not as if you have a sliding scale of safety and % of revenues to absorb risk. You could easily create a market for drivers that are denied by the market leaders with authority that charges MORE than market rate, say 40%. You end up stockpiling cash under the mattress until the driver moves on. You either make out like a bandit, or collect enough to break even. The hard part is keeping paperwork legal. That would be a requirement for the job. Legal log, or they hit the road.

What is the policy of getting new authority numbers if the one you have goes sour? What about using family member's SSN # for new authority?

File a corporation in whatever state you wish, get an E.I.N. from the IRS, and file for a new authority after you get insurance. Authority is easy. It's insurance that can be difficult. Ya' can't play the game without it.

I would say you have a self-resetting circuit breaker that is tripping from overload.

When the guy hot-wired your A/C, did he happen to get the power from the fuel pump feed? I would suspect any wires that have been butchered.

Good 12 volt electricians are extremely hard to find. If you do happen to find a good one, better chain him up inside your truck, lol.
