Older Toshibas had huge overheating problems. They vent the shiite out of most of the newer models, so that's usually not a problem if you keep the dust out of them. Most models are tough as nails. I still have a Satellite from 02 that we use as an web box, but she's stripped of almost all software beyond the OS and browser. Another plus is that I don't need to keep a baseball bat in the house, because I can always use that thing for self- defense.

Bought a new switch for the wipers at Rush Peterbilt of Charlotte.

$274.90 for a half-ounce part that looks like it cost $5 tops to make.

Well, it wasn't the switch. Plugged it in and same thing, sprays fluid but won't wipe.

Peterbilt says I'm stuck with it ha ha. Warranty exchange only. No restocking fee or credit towards the job.

$274.90??? OMFG!!! I'd have told 'em where they could stick that switch.

Always check the simple stuff first—fuses... breaker. Then try powering the wiper motor direct. If it won't do anything when you power it from a jumper, then the motor is bad.

you know you cold have checked that switch first by jumping the power to the terminals for the wiper motor to see if it worked.

and on't feel too bad. I believe 550 told me the other day the switch for the HVAC controls on the KW is over $400

I asked everyone and their brother what the problem was including all 3 shops I've been to for the last 3 weeks. They all said it was the switch. First intermittent went, then either hi or lo would work but not both, then finally nothing. I don't see why the motor would work great on hi but not lo or vice-versa if it was burnt out. When I picked up the switch yesterday, the parts guy commented that's how they all go, just as I described.

then tell them the switch is bad and you want another... lmao... its one way to be sure. Remember what I told you about new parts. more then they like to admit are junk.

I actually don't know how the intermitant system works on that truck. there has to be resisters or relays somewhere to control the delay but I don't know if it's in the motor or external.

how many wires are pluged into the wiper motor? one should be a ground. get a multi meter and set it to ohms. put one lead on a grunded metal part and touch the other to the wires in the plug. when you find the ground then jump a wire to it from the grounded metal. the others should be all power wires so you can put 12 volt to them and see wht happens.
without seeing a schematic I will say don't take that as gospel though. although it's probably what I would do anyways since I imagine that's the next part you will throw at it then it really don't matter much does it

I'd bet that there's a separate wiper control module somewhere under the dash. Ask the dealer... of course, if they wanted $274 for a freakin switch, they'll probably want Donald Trump to cosign for a module or the motor.:biggrin_25512:
