I went out and realized I had left my inverter in the socket all day. Turned the key and nothing happened.

Brought my van out to charge it (HO Alt and 2 Optima Yellowtops, does the trick ok)... after an hour still nothing. All interior power fine, voltmeter showing bats fully charged at that point.

I checked all the relays and fuses, the fuel relay pump kicks on, but it won't turn at all, not even a gasp.

I had the starter replaced the first couple weeks I bought the truck. It had suddenly developed a dead spot. If this one did that too, I don't know how to turn it. I got down there and looked at it, even hit it with a wrench.. kinda weak since no good angle though.

    Ouch!!!

    :biggrin_25513:

There has to be an easy or cheap fix for whatever the problem is. Doesnt seem to me to be that huge of a problem. Certainly not huge enough to end the trucks' life.

BTW, apparently the abbreviated phrase I posted wash bad juju for this board, seeing as it was deleted. Sorry mods. I'll go wash my mouth out with soap.... or should I wash my typing fingers out instead?

I hear a click-CLICK when the fuel relay pump doesn't kick on. I've had an ongoing problem where sometimes I have to go smack the relay to get it to fire up. When that does kick on I don't notice the clicking sound. There is definitely a click but I don't know what is making the noise, I assume it's probably that.

The relay in the Ign spot is sort of burnt up and gets hot, but it generally still works. Tonight I realized I had 4 of the same model numbers of relays between the front fuse box and the bunk fuse box, I switched them all out to different places.

Would the solenoid be separate from the starter or built in? When I was under there I saw a couple skinny wires going to something that looked like a car solenoid, mounted upside down with two screws in it. But I also saw the negative battery cables going directly to the front of the starter as well. I'm not real comfortable with what I see down there and what's what.

The solenoid is on the starter. It is the thing with the skinny wires. There should be a wire coming to the solenoid attached to a nut, and another nut just above that one. With the truck switch on, and the truck OUT OF GEAR, take a screwdriver and jump across the two small nuts. If the engine turns over and starts, then the solenoid is your problem.

If you have help, you can always pull it off with the van if it's not loaded. Just be sure to put the truck in 8th gear or higher before releasing the clutch.

No I'm not loaded, I don't have any chains though.

I've jumped a solenoid on a car before so I'm familar with that process. I'll see if I can make some sense of what I see down there when it gets light out.

Thanks for the tips. I'm just not sure of what I can do to a car that I can apply to a big truck. Will pulling it off work even if the batteries are charged? I had thought that was just for a dead battery.

Let me rephrase my first post. Jump across the skinny wire under the nut on the solenoid and the big hot wire going to the solenoid. This should start the truck if the solenoid is bad.

    PharmPhail Thanks this.
