Whats your plan Gears? Leasing on to someone?
I've been looking into my options. May lease on to a company but am afraid I won't have as much control if I do so. Was thinking also about using a broker I know or using Landstar. Decisions decisions.....
No flatbed experience, so either dry van or reefer -
Let me know if you want any info.Gears Thanks this. -
Hi Folks. Newbie here.
I went to driving school with Pharm in November '08 in Charlotte. During a visit back to the school, I was re-connected with him. I've been following this thread, trying to catch up, but from what I gather, I gotta say, what Rob is doing is fantastic and he is very lucky to have you guys watching his back. What a great group. I spoke to Rob a moment ago and he said the same thing; "never woulda made it without those people helping me..."
Rob thanks ya and I thank ya for being so generous.
See ya on the road!

If you look at the truck as a completely separate issue from the rest, depending on the state you live in, you're looking at about $5k to $6k to be legal. That's insurance down payment ($2200 or so), tags ($2200 again if you have to pay the sales tax on the truck along with it) then your incorporation, authority, UCR, 2290, any IFTA startup fees etc are all smaller expenses that add up.
If you lease on somewhere then just the 2290 and smaller stuff. Big appeal to doing that for obvious reasons. But you'll usually need a couple years experience and full background just like getting a job in order to lease on.
Please remember you'll need at least access to a lot more money for floating expenses and unexpected repairs the first couple months, and there's really no figure that is high enough and realistic for that, you'll know when you know. So usually $15k, $5k for truck down, $5k for legal, and $5k float. That's roughly the minimum most would advise... but many MANY do it with a lot less and your mileage will vary.
Hope that helps.snowwy Thanks this. -
You bet I'd like more info on your flatbed gig. I want to exhaust all options before making a decision. Any info you can forward would be great. Since I'm a youngster here and don't post a lot, I wasn't able to PM you so I'm using the forum....
