Your state makes laws that regulate insurance companies.
I would be a smarty pants and ask the adjuster for copies of his phone bill and bank statements.
Three things you give are your version of the accident incl. photos, police report, if available and repair estimates. Next thing you ask is "where's my check?"

Just make sure you get everything from them in writing. You might need it later.

first off, its shouldn't be his insurance company that is paying, it should the other guys insurance company that is paying. his insurance company should be helping him collect from the other insurance company. that's how it works.
the claim should have been made on the other guys insurance.baha Thanks this. -
He may be trying to stay one step ahead of the other insurance company by finding out ahead of the other company if you were running illegal.
If your log book is off you could be found at fault in court if sued by the other drivers insurance company.
You know like "if you were not running illegal you would not have been there to get in the accident".
I'm not saying you were illegal but this a tactic that is used against drivers even when it was the other drivers fault.
Your insurance company would want to know this before going into discussions with the other company. -
I would ask a lawyer...u dont want to give him anymore info then you have too...and if the d.o.t man is not requiring or courts not...then I wouldn't give him nothing.....I would definitely get a lawyer involved just incase cheif

I'm pretty sure if you read through your policy it will state that you are required to submit documents as requested in order to process your claim, mine does. The only thing that will tell you what you have to do is that policy. If you have nothing to hide what's the problem? It's not invasion of personal privacy either, because it's a business to business transaction. Again, read your policy, it's all in there!!

I've never hear of that before either. Sounds like it was a bad accident. I don't know why it would be so much work for you to go back a month though.
Contrary to what others have said, I have never known my insurance companies to look for a reason not to pay. They do however, like to have all their ducks in a row so they can go to the other insurance company and fight for you (them). You guys are on the same team on this one believe it or not. They will settle with you later but for now they don't want to pay and you don't want them to pay.
The police report doesn't determine which insurance company will pay. Last summer I was in a wreck in my personal vehicle. Insurance companies agreed that the other driver was at fault but the cop charged me. The insurance companies have a book they go by. They look through the book for a similar scenario to your accident and the book tells them who was at fault. As for the cops charging someone...they can't be trusted. They are just a bunch of over paid mall cops and they screw up the investigation half the time IMO. Besides, they might know one of the people involved.
I would read the policy and see a lawyer. -
Unless the insurance guy is a DOT agent tell him to pound sand as he has no authority to request logs from you.

Thanks for all the advice guys. My first instinct was to tell him that he's not the DOT. I do infact believe the insurance company is looking for a way to drop me from coverage. I'm up for renewal next month and I haven't gotten my renewal paperwork. However from now on I will tell the agent to send any requests in writing and seek legal counsel if I have to. The problem is my current insurance is relatively inexpensive compared to for example Progressive. I don't want to name my insurance company until this matter is settled. The accident itself wasn't major.
