Hello everyone . If I drive for an owner operator here in California. How will I know if I'm om his insurance policy . He said the truck is insured and that's all that matters . I thought I had to be on the policy . Is this true ? and if I get pulled over will the police realize I'm not on the policy . I don't want to get my license suspended . I just got it .

somewhere in teh truck should be an insurance card or paper. with current effective date. that's all you need to be concerned about.
drivers are NEVER listed on the actual card. only truck. if you weren't insured. you wouldn't be driving or working for the man. -
No, the truck isn't insured unless you are on the policy. Otherwise, anyone could just get a job and drive any truck for any carrier, regardless of their record. He must get you insured to drive the truck. I don't think the police would look into the matter unless there was an accident, then all hell would break loose and the insurance company would revoke the coverage. Since there is an insurance certificate in the truck, you could just call the agent and see what they have to say.

Just imagine the size of a Schneider insurance card if all 12,000 drivers names were on the card. And they would have to issue a new card every hour as people came and went from the company.
The insurance card is for the trucking co./OO covering any employee in the company. Not any specific person. As long as the insurance is up to date and valid, you are covered. -
truck having a driver doesn't mean the truck is insured. truck has to have insurance or the plate is suspended. and so would company operating authority.
driver or no driver. truck maintains insurance. and a card is issued to the company. usually valid for 1 year. card doesn't specifiy truck vin or person driving. it merely states insurance is valid for said company, along with policy number. and usually the policy accompanies card. one copy for each truck and office
like above mentioned, imagine every truck getting a new card with all drivers listed, everytime someone quit or hired on. or even simply switched trucks.
doesn't happen.Inbetweenthelines Thanks this. -
I would think it would be if the truck is insured for a specific driver, or for any driver that drove the truck.
If you drive for an O/O, that would be my concern.
