You can't get your own authority without having the truck insured with liability and cargo insurance. Your going to have to shut down and start from scratch.

Yes it is. Everything is required all at once. You can't get insurance without a truck also. It all happens at once.

Cargo insurance is no longer required for motor carriers unless you haul household goods.

Motor Carrier of Property (except Household Goods) OP-1 Instructions
An authorized for-hire Motor Carrier that transports regulated commodities (except household goods) for the general public in exchange for payment. Motor Carriers of Property (except Household Goods) must file proof of public liability (bodily injury and property damage — BI & PD) with FMCSA in order to obtain interstate Operating Authority. Cargo insurance is not required

Of course it's required. You can't haul a single load without it. The law may say that but no broker on the face of the earth will give you a load

I think he was asking what was required for authority. Most brokers and shippers require a minimum of $100,000 cargo insurance to load a truck.

They dropped the cargo requirement a few years ago except for HHG. Just look at your own requirements.[TABLE]

Yup, once again. If your getting your authority your not hauling anything without it so it's not even worth arguing about it. Also, cargo insurance is the hardest to get. Liability is easy compared to cargo.

I can't count the number of people I've helped get their own authority and only a handful made it. Mostly due to either not being able to get cargo insurance or having to pay an enormous amount up front.

Never said that you don't need it before anyone will load you. Just that it is no longer required by FMCSA to get authority. You could add it afterwards.
