I wonder if by chance your hubby is leaving one job which has you covered under an insurance plan in favor of going to Werner (or whoever)? If that is the case, you should Google the words "Cobra Insurance". A ton of info will come from that search.
Long story short, there is a law that states that if you leave an employer who has you covered under their plan, then the employer must make that plan available to you at your own expense (which will be high - probably several hundred dollars per month). I think you have 30 days to do it (not positive on that one), and can use it for up to, I believe it is, 18 mos. This holds true if you leave voluntarily, or if terminated for anything other than gross neglect (or something like that??).
Most employers follow the law and let you know of this option as you depart, but knowing the trucking companies, they may not do what they are supposed to. Also, after a quick search, I noticed something about smaller companies being exempt.
If by chance you are jumping from one job to another, I'll leave it to you to do the researching.
One last thing per chance this does apply to your situation. It doesn't cost the company anything to do this other than that they have to do some minimal amount of administrative work. They don't have much reason to deny you the option, and you should not need to fight with them for it.
Good luck to you and yours!!
