I know that I'm going to get bashed for this. How hard is it for a new CDL driver to get his commercial vehicle insured? I'm not worried about the price because I have that covered. How many loops do i have to go through with the insurance company being a new driver?

Helps even more if you are at least 25 years old. Good credit rating seems to make a difference for some insurers nowadays.
    It can be done.

I wonder why shippers and brokers won't accept OOIDA? I read on the forum here that landstar had a despute with OOIDA and won't work with drivers insured by them. What is the issue with brokers and shippers working with them?

many instances where they will refuse to pay claims, when you talk to someone at OOIDA about insurance the agent will run down a list to you as to who will not accept there insurance, i know for a fact the list she read me was incomplete cause Packard she never mentioned and ive used packard quite a few times when i was a lease on driver for another company and brokers told me when i get my own #s they wouldnt accept OOIDA

Ok guys I don't know if this is an insurance question or not but here goes..
First of all I'm a company driver in my 3rd year OTR. On the 5th of this month I was driving through the house on my way to Birmingham AL. and I stopped for dinner and a shower. I parked my truck where I've parked 100 times. The lot is well lit and has 24hr surveillance. There were two trucks parked in the back of the lot and an open space to the left of them. I parked and left between 2200 and 2215. I went home, ate dinner and took a shower. I returned to my truck to sleep so as not to oversleep and be late the next morning. I returned to my truck between 2330 and 2345 and the parking lot was full of fire trucks and emergency vehicles. In the back of the lot still smoking and completely burnt to the ground were all 3 trucks. As I stood in shock trying to comprehend what had happened in the short time I was gone the fire chief informed me that "everything is gone son. I'm so very sorry". No one could tell me what had happened to cause the fire that night but I was reassured that they were going to do a full investigation. After the investigation they determined that the truck on the right was a refer unit and when the refer unit kicked on it caught fire and spread to the car carrier in the middle burning all of the vehicles it was carrying which spread to my truck on the left. Seems pretty straight forward right?? Not exactly. All 3 drivers gave the fire chief our info the night of the incident. The company that the refer driver told everyone he worked for says he's not with them and that's not one of their trucks. Now I have no idea what to do to get my stuff that was inside the truck replaced. Any advise would be great. BTW my company said they don't have a policy that covers their drivers belongings in the event that anything is lost or destroyed.

Get the information from the police on the trucking company that has the insurance that started the fire. Call them up and make a claim. Don't forget to tell them about your lost time in wages claim. They will replace your stuff, and your wages. Make sure to jot down names and numbers.
