Intel Cuts Notebook SSD Prices By a Third (PC Magazine

Intel issued price reductions for its line of solid-state discs (SSDs) on Thursday, cutting the price of the low-end 80-Gbyte model for notebook PCs by 34 percent, to a more affordable $390.

Intel manufactures solid-state discs in both 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors, for both the mainstream PC and enterprise markets. Intel designed the X18-M and X-25 mainstream SSDs as a replacement for the conventional hard drives found within notebook PCs.

Why has Intel discounted the drives? The company didn't say. However, David Flynn, chief technical officer of solid-state drive company Fusion-io, said Thursday that the fact that "CEs have taken such a nose dive has left a surplus of flash in the market," driving down prices.

I figured these drives price would come down and I'm sure they will drop even further by the end of the year.

I think so as well. If they continue to drop, I can see me getting off enough money to get one. I can always use a USB drive to store "data".
