I'm quite sick of being out OTR and am trying to find a local opportunity that will allow me to be home daily. I'm willing to work for someone, however, I'm much much more interested in being an Owner. I'm willing to own/drive any type of truck, but I only have experience with a 53' Dry Van, and a Strait truck.

Right now, I would like to find a company within a 30 mile radius of Roanoke, VA that is looking to Contract an O/O for home daily jobs. I've been searching google, craigslist, job listings, and I just can't seem to find something like this. I'm not sure where else to look at this point. Is there something I'm missing? Does what I'm looking for, even exist? I'm pretty sure it has too, but I feel like I've hit a dead end. Any suggestions on obtaining my goal?

    Thanks!

Haul containers......you could run cosmetics from Elizabeth Arden to the port and come back empty

If it seems interesting to you check the Hampton Roads section of Craigslist. Loads of O/O, L/P, and company driver positions

I don't think it's financially possible to be a home every night O/O. You have to be OTR if you want any chance of being a successful O/O. At least that is what I have learned so far. Good luck in your search though!

Really!! Please do share. Would you mind telling what kind of truck you have and what it is you haul?

I too get home most nights on a weekly basis and make darn good money doing so too. To many company drivers trying to assume what life like an owner op is. Like what was posted before you could take a truck and put on somewhere pulling railroad containers and be home nightly and make roughly $1200-$1500 weekly after fuel depending how you run. Good luck and do what you feel not what wannabes suggest.

Looking at the difference between your experience level and losttrucker's . . . really? There are ways to do that, depending on where you live . . .

Not pointed at me but I will answer also. I drive a 99 pete 377 with a 3406 Cat with a super 10 spd tranny sitting on 24.5lp tires and I average 5.7mpg. I currently pull flatbed and haul alot of steel. I have pulled cans in the past. Anymore questions?

I wasn't expecting this to be possible for a new driver at all. I never read or was told about anybody who was a O/O that is at home every night. That's great that they can do it.

I pull containers out of the ports in VA
I have an '05 Columbia and and have a combo 20'-40' tri axle chasis. Here lately ive been pulling only steamship chasis. I drive right at 2k miles a week (sometimes a little more) and my average for ALL miles this year is $1.73 and half of the miles I'm empty
