Disqualifying Offenses and Other Factors | Transportation Security Administration
The bold & underlined section half way down the page in @Moose1958 post #7 is what applies to your situation.
Unlawful possession of a firearm disqualifies you for 7 years from passing a TSA HazMat Background check.
I don't know when the 7 year date starts counting down. Is it conviction date or release date?

it’s a released from criminal background date thingtscottme Thanks this.

Just to be clear, many people think that most gun charges are lifetime bans to get a haz-mat or a TWIC. It is a rather common misconception. I think it arises from the 7th crime in that list that looks almost like the wording of the interim first item, which is the gun.
Also, there is some confusion about the timing of the interim crimes.
Conviction for one of the following felonies is disqualifying if the applicant was convicted, pled guilty (including ‘no contest’), found not competent to stand trial, or found not guilty by reason of insanity within seven years of the date of the application; OR if the applicant was released from incarceration after conviction within five years of the date of the application.
If you have any of these crimes on your record and were convicted within 7 years of the date of the application, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR APPLICATION DENIED!
If you are released from incarceration within 5 years of the application, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR APPLICATION DENIED!
Don't get those periods mixed up. They are NOT the same.
This part speaks for itself.
PART C
UNDER WANT, WARRANT OR INDICTMENT
Somebody sentenced to probation only falls under the 7 years.
Now, I know for a fact there is a man charged with murder who passed a TSA background check. So clearly there are people who have slipped through the cracks for whatever reason.

tscottme Thanks this. -
What is unlawful about having a firearm in your possession? Are you already been charged with a felony for something else.A gun left in your car isn’t a felony in it self.Depending on state maybe concealed but that in itself isn’t a felony
-
If he was in possession of drugs the gun would make it a felony. If he had enough drugs that could have been used for resale instead of personal use, it would have been an automatic 10-12 years in some areas.tscottme Thanks this.

Is the OP saying it's going to be expunged? And that's why it's going to be off the record?
-
The crime is only a 7 year disqualification. I understood the OP as saying soon the 7 year DQ period will be expired. Apparently the 7 year period begins when the offender completes the sentence, released from probation.

Why not look for local trucking work? Cement truck, 10 wheel dump, etc?
-
The way the judges explained it the gun isn’t mine but was in my car so yes it’s a felony
-
Yes sorry forgot the word it’ll be expunged77fib77 Thanks this.
