hello all,
I was just curious on how good the container market is going for O/O's out there? A consultant friend of mine was telling me today that if I bought a truck and went the way of Pharmphil on the load boards thread to look in to moving containers off the cargo ships.
I know freight is slow and I'm probably not going to do this anytime soon but would like to know
1. can an o/o get in to this with his own authority?
2. Is there any money in this type of freight?
3. Is this stuff moving & and is it even worth it
I haven't heard much talk about moving containers except for the big companies like Schneider and I was just curious. I'm looking from advice from all sides on this topic and thanx in advance

do a search on intermodal and you'll find numerous posts about this... some say its slime work(many of which have never done it), others say it has done them well. Wade through the info already on here and then ask more questions...
What I can tell you is that you have to have a TWIC pass which is similar to a hazmat background check. google TWIC for more info on this portion of the job. -
I pull containers and it sucks. They are the worst pieces of equipment on the road. The pay is low, the waits are long, and the loads are heavy. But, I'm home every night and no one is really leasing on trucks right now in St Louis so this is what I'm stuck with for the moment. Since I don't live near a port, I don't have to have a TWIC card so I know nothing about that aspect of what you're looking at.

thanx guys im a good 120 miles away from jaxport down here in florida and the more i look it up and the less im interested. Im finding killer deals on trucks right now and id like to get something started up but im still doing my research and see if there's anything worth to specialize in. id like to stay out of the van and reefer market anyone got any ideas what would be a good thing to specialize in, in florida? OTR doesn't bother me to much but id like to at least stay in the south east. anything is appreciated

#### u guys are right i guess ill just hold off til the economy gets better if ever.

The problem I'm certain has something to do with the economy, but your bigger problem is your geographic restriction. When you limit yourself geographically, by sheer default, you remove 95% of the possibilities...... if not more. Your selection of Florida, makes it worse. By contrast, IF you were in Texas, you could restrict yourself to Texas and be a whole lot better off than restricting yourself to Florida.
