I recently purchased an International 7400 with Allison 3000 transmission. I was driving and "Electrical Fault" error popped up on the dash and the truck significantly reduced power. When I pulled over and parked the truck, the gear display went blank and would not go back into gear. Once I turned the truck off, it would not start again. Mechanic came out and found 2 blown 20 amp fuses in the battery box, replaced them and everything was back to normal. I got in the truck today and it wouldn't start again. Mechanic suggested I put 30 amp fuses in and the truck fired right up again but after about an hour, those fuses blew also and the truck shut down. I'm waiting on the mechanic to do a more in depth inspection of the electrical system. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this and how was it fixed?

Don’t know how mechanically inclined you are, however first things I would do is clean battery terminals, negative at the frame rail, alternator connections as well as starter connections.

There is a wiring harness from those fuses to power the engine control module.
I had a wire rubbed bare on it that periodically shorted to the frame on my 96 9200.
liquid electrical tape after a #10 wire splice and fresh wire loom fixed me up.

Somebody says put a larger fuse in as a fix, just assume they're incompetent at electrical and stop listening. Could cost you a truck.

I agree…he was under the truck the first day this happened, so I don’t understand how he didn’t see the wire harness laying on the leaf spring. As soon I got under the truck I saw it. I definitely will not call him for electrical problems again.

Man in have so much to thank you on this one. I had checked all off this but I guess I didn't focus on it hard enough. checked all my battery connections, fuses relays, harness to starter and alternator. checked ECU for corrosion, connectors, followed wiring diagrams. this wire was covered with dirt and grime and never saw the impressions in the harness. I rinsed off the harness cut the anchoring zip tie, exposed harness and saw the wire sheath was exposed touching the other wires. funny thing is the fuses did not pop. Performed the wire splice, soldered the wires together and put heat -shrink. alll ok now

    Heavyd Thanks this.
