Our 2001 International 9200i, 12.7 Detroit Diesel with Eaton transmission has an issue I'm trying to fix. 2nd owner and working thru a hodge-podge of miss-steps and band-aids.

Error Code stored and comes back after clearing- FMI=12, SID0084, SID 84 error code). (Timing actuator #2).

Symptoms include speedo that sometimes jumps, tach does similarly along with failure of cruise control to function.

Assuming I can find the sensor in question, and a test chart, I am leaning towards faulty speed sensor, and I am trying to find the correct unit on the Eaton transmission to possibly test.

Looking from the top (cab access panel) I can make out a total of (4) four sensors on tranny. Pair on the top look the same and mount into body and are a solid plastic with built-in retaining hole. Pair on the tail housing (one at near 12 o'clock and other at :15) have a different look to them with bolt/clip/sensor.

Am I in the right neighborhood or missing something?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Cheers,

    David

At the back. I thank one is for the ECM and the other is for the Gauge. If the tach is doing the same thing it is probably not the sensors.
You can try swapping the connectors from one to the other as a test. However that does not sound like your problem.

Speed sensor is by the transmission yoke and can look like one of these.

Tach reading comes from the ECM on a 2001 International.

Try removing the center dash where the tach and speedometer are located and unplug the harness and plug it back in.

The tach is ECM driven. The cruise and speedo sound like a loose transmission yoke nut

First thing you do is verify CLEAN battery connections, especially the 10 gauge wires in the battery box, then follow the ecm ground and power wires and verify those are good. Next is the connection for the cam sensor, after that you can try swapping the 2 speed sensor connections at the rear of the transmission.
