I'm a University student, looking to start my fleet after I finish school. If you guys know of any carriers or small fleets that offer internship opportunities, I would appreciate the help greatly.

    Start your fleet?

How much money do you have?

Telling us where you live might help?

I'm open to relocating, so anywhere is game.

By time of deployment, enough for 3 tractors & trailers all cash, along with plenty of overhead

    What?

    Deployment?

    You in the service?

I would suggest forget school and get to a medium size fleet who has a mix of customers. Hire in doing anything in the office and move up until you get how this all works.

I am getting tired of repeating myself (and many are tired of me saying it like a broken record) but you won't learn much chasing coffee and donuts as an intern.

To tell you what I do maybe a help to you to understand why I am saying it - I buy distressed fleets and absorb them into my own. It takes skill and knowledge to know what you are doing and it is a very hard thing to do.

How can you move if you go to college? Is it an online college or something?

Interns in my time were chasing after missing files, logs, coffee, busted keyboards and smashed phones. Small stuff.

I'm not trying to be negative. If you want to get in to trucking why go to school? 99% of truckers didn't, even successful O/O's and fleet owners. Why waste the money? If you're going to school do something technical and challenging with your life. This ain't it. This is mundane, way too regulated and a constant game of hide and seek from the IRS and DOT. Is that what you want to do with your life? It's also a constant game of hiring and firing, as in daily, for a fleet owner. Who would want that?

If you want to drive a truck get in one. No formal education needed. Anyone will train you. I have kids and tell them all the time it's the last thing you want to do. I like what I do (driving and business side) but no way I'd choose it again if I were young.
