I read on here that orientation for most companies, at least the starters, is basically just an extended interview. Has anyone ever had a typical 1 on 1 interview, be it face to face or on the phone?
Thanks.

My first company was a face to face interview. I met with the owner (125 trucks), and 2 days later I was offered the job. My current company was also a face to face interview.
Don't fall for the myth that you have to hire on with a mega-starter-carrier. Avoid them at all costs.UncleMeano Thanks this. -
Not looking to get into the industry as of yet. I was more curious to know, and I should have said in the first place, if that might be an indication of a better quality employer.
And believe me, if I ever do take the leap, I've read enough here to know that there are good jobs available, you just have to put the time in to find them. Even if you have no experience. -
Companies you see online is not really an interview. They call you want to fax a form for you to sign giving them approval to look up your dac and mvr then you fax it back. They call in a day or 2 if you're prehired.Getting hired with a trucking company online is not the same as getting hired with a non trucking job. What trucking companies look for more then anything is if your mvr is clean and will get approved with their insurance company. There's really no interview unless you fill out an application close to where you live.

phone and face to face with the company im currently with.not all mega carriers are bad, being with a small outfit does have advantages. but no matter who you drive for, it's time and experience that makes the difference. you will find that most interviews with medium size and mega carriers are with recruiters, over the phone. just stay calm it'll all be good. good luck

i did a phone interview, then a face to face, but the 6 weeks training period was also considered an interview to see how i treated the equipment, if i was afe, and how i represented the company to the customers and general public on the roads....it wasn't until i road tested after the 6 weeks with my trainer that the tester shook my hand and said you passed congrats you NOW have a job with us if you want it.
I also went into the interview face to face like i was interviewing them and they needed to sell me on why THEY were the right company for me....but my situation was a little unsual as i didn't have to immediately go to work and i made it clear that I chose THEM, not the other way around lol worked like a charm but i can't recommend that approach for everyone. I had a background and work history that alowed me to get away with it.
and as said above, don't go for the huge carriers....i went with a smaller more local company and it's been a different planet than most of the stories you hear on here......there's a huge difference in working for a company with 800 trucks vs. 20,000.....while not a small mom and pop outfit by any means, it's still small enough that i walk into dispatch and they know my name and truck number without asking. the culture and philosophies in smaller companies are worlds away from the company where you're just a truck number.
good luck to youMMM DRIVER and NavigatorWife Thank this.
