Just curious--any of you out there know what size of inverter I'd need to operate a C-Pap machine. I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea, and need to use one now.

I don't know what size, the device should have it's volts and amps on it. You just multiply volts times amps to get watts. Get a bigger one than you think you need. If it needs 900 watts, get the 1500W inverter.

Anyway, I have been told, but double check, that you need a "pure sign wave" inverter for a CPAP. They cost about twice as much, and you won't find them at the truck stops. Basically, the pure sign wave gives the same clear electrical signal you get at home while the step-wave inverters (what you find in the truck stops) give a signal that can damage sensitive equipment.

I have a 300 watt one that has run mine for the last 9 years with no problems. the people sold it to me where i got the cpap from. so you might ask them to see . also get a spare hose because they will crack after a while.

The one required for use with mine (ResMed with humidifier) is a 200w SINE WAVE inverter.

The Sine Wave part is particularly important. Another driver with SA posted a good explanation of this in another thread...I'm rushing this morning, but if I can find it I'll point ya to it.

Great info- thanks--the model is a BiPap Plus M series by respironics. It DOES have the humidifier. Asked at the pharmacy, and they didn't have a clue as to inverters for it.

I've been using the same El Cheapo truckstop special i 140w inverter for the last 12 years and 2 different CPAP machines. Btw, I do not use the humidifier, It's too much of a PITA! I am really curious about the sine wave inverter and why it's needed too.
