    P[SUB](W)[/SUB] = I[SUB](A)[/SUB]× V[SUB](V)

    Volts X Amps = Wattage

    120 X 15 = 1800

They do make a 12Vdc microwave but your right they don't work well. The one I tried is here http://www.roadtrucker.com/12-volt-microwave-wavebox/12-volt-microwave.htm it will heat thinks up but takes 2-3 times longer than a regular microwave. I use a croc-pot to make most of my meals and they are great. Low watts and cook while you drive. Get the ones that have locking lids and you won't have any problems.

...and then there are things like transformer losses, etc.

Safe bet is to stick with 1000 watt or less microwave. Also, most microwave recipes are based on the 1000 watt variety.

Most likely, you'd trip the safety circuit on the inverter immediately. I believe microwaves, among other things, have a higher start-up load..

Anybody have an idea how many watst inverter it takes to run a 19 in flat screen TV. I would think that would be a very light load, no pun intended.

Tv? Probably around 75-125watts. Depending on if its led or traditional flat screen lcd. It should give the wattage on the back of the tv and on the box it comes.in.
