1500watts should do the job. Brand isn't a real big issue, but one of the best brand of inverters, as recognized by the TMC (Transportation Maintence Council), is the Xantrex brand of inverters.

Key thing is to have any inverter wired up and grounded properly. Best advice is to have a tech in a shop wire it up for you, unless you have good experience doing this.

Thank you for the tips, I will look up that brand. The truck shop has offered to hook it up and said they will supply the cables and fuse too, at no charge.

Well, the Xantrex inverters are not cheap, but like with most things, you get what you pay for. Do a search on the Xantrex Pro series 1800 watt inverter. That is a darn good one at a reasonable price. Many boating stores carry these online. I did a quick search and found one at $310. You could probably find a place that can beat that. Either way, that one is a solid inverter with low interference and will last you a long, long time. Definitely not one of the inverters the truck stops sell. But like I said, you get what you pay for.

most of the time the cables they use are way to small.... the cables that came with my 1500w invertor i use on a 800w invertor. the cables i have on my 1500w invertor are so thick that i had to trim a little wire off the sides to get them to fit and it has twin 50a fusses.

if you have a mirco and a fridge i would unplug the fridge when you run the mirco, over time it will be to much for a 1500w invertor, remember that 3000w is only for about 1 sec.

Yes I was thinking that I would need to do that just for added protection, unplug the fridge before using the micro-wave.

I know very little on electric and what is needed for what with this stuff, but from what I read 1500 would be a good size, so that is why I am asking the folks that have done this before, and use them all the time.

    Thank you

The Cobra I got lasted about 16 months+/-.

Replaced it with a Power Driver 2000 watt bought from Amazon($139 free shipping) and have had it about 2 years+ /-.

Make sure they put in an inline breaker!!!!

I bought a 1500 powerdrive unit at the Pilot tonight for $139.00 out the door price. This should take care of what I need.
