I am currently only setup for IRP/IFTA for WI/IL based on my current operating area. I am planning a trip to IA via the following: WI->IL->IA but will only be inside IA within a 25mile radius from the IL border.
Does anyone know if I still need to file for a 72hr trip permit to IA??
Reciprocity is rather hard to determine.....or if its applicable here...

If you are at a scale house in any state that is NOT on your list, then I'm guessing you're in trouble, or about to spend extra money!
-
I know if I go from WI to MN and stay within 30miles of the border I am indeed OK. But so far, thats the only reciprocity that I have learned...

If your set up with IRP and IFTA there's no need for a permit... but you must report your miles and maybe put them on your registration next year.
Hanadarko Thanks this. -
However,
It's just that my IRP cab card *only* lists WI and IL. All of the rest are empty. That cut down on my registration fees for 2010. ($400 something vs $1800 something I think it was)...
I just dont want to get popped for something stupid like this. Ignorance is bliss I suppose but ya know if they find ONE thing isn't proper..then they look for other issues and things. I dont like to ever give anyone any reason... -
I contacted Iowa. I need a 72hr trip permit for IRP. My IFTA will cover me.
$10 fee and they fax the form. Thats fair enough.... -
Wow... I'm not licensed for all 48... never have been. But I used to get to most of them a time or two each year... permit dept. always said it didn't matter that we'd add them next year if we went back again.
Looks like you are good to go..
