Well, it wasn't the much anticipated release of a totally new hardware device in the form of an iPhone5, but Apple has reconfigured the iPhone4 and called it the iPhone4S. With the new additions, new iOS, and hardware upgrades they could have called it the iPhone5 and nobody would have thought any less. It looks pretty neat. As I am still using my 3GS and eligible for an upgrade, I shall be upgrading when it is available. Pre-orders from Apple online on Oct. 7th and in store on Oct. 14th.

Here's some of what I'll be getting in the 4S:
"Siri". Now you can use your voice to use your iPhone. Just talk to Siri as you would to a person: “Do I need an umbrella?” or “Any great burgers around here?” or “Where’s the closest ATM?” Siri not only understands what you say, it knows what you mean.1 It figures out the right apps to use to find the right answer. Then, just like a personal assistant, it answers you. Siri makes phone calls, sends messages, schedules meetings, sets reminders, and more. How much more? Just ask, and Siri tells you that, too.

The Dual Core A5 chip (same as in iPad2). It's up to twice as fast as previous iPhones and is power efficient for longer battery life.

All new optics, 8 megapixel, 1080p camera. Larger aperture for crisper pics, HD video with stability control. Might be the only camera I would need.

All new iOS 5 operating system with over 200 new features.

iCloud. Take a vid or pic, add a contact, download new music, apps, mail, calendar, documents.... If it's on one device, it's on all of them automatically. (And this includes pc's)

There are many more new features and you can check them all out here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/

I'm looking forward to it. :biggrin_25519:

Business expense! I'll probably upgrade just because of the battery life. My 3GS would usually die 80% through my day then I upgraded to 4 - the 4 usually dies if I'm on FB or the Internet all day but I can usually get a full day out of it.

I have the 4 and I do not qualify for the 4s. :biggrin_25513: But I am such an iPhone FREAK! that after the 1st of the year I'll probably bite the bullet go 4s. If I'm not mistaken I think you can get a small discount off of paying full boat retail. (will have to verify) Regardless.. I can get about $300 bucks for my "perfect" condition 4 on ebay which will make up for the expense.

My son picked up a 4S within a week of it hitting the market. He gets a kick out of the Siri feature. He tells it things like, "go f%#@ yourself" and it responds with stuff like "did I do something wrong?" I think he is working on a list of stuff you can say to it and the funny responses one can get out of it.

Likewise, I got a 4 late last winter. I probably will wait for the 5 on the next go around.

On O&A last week they were telling Siri things like "I am horny" and it would respond with "There are 14 escorts near you". :biggrin_2559:

I was doing my budget and it looks like 3 more weeks. Just in time for my birthday! :biggrin_25525:

My husband is due for an upgrade in February 2012 and my phone is due for an upgrade in June 2012. I have done our budget using the figures from my husband's training pay (he is now on miles which means there should be no way he is getting less than his training pay and should be making at least $170 more per week as long as he gets as many miles as he got his first week on his own - that first week included a day off due to his truck needing to be worked on) and we will each be able to afford up to the most expensive iPhone 4S at their current prices when we are due for our individual upgrades.

I will stick with my Apple products. I have dozens of friends who have Android based phones. While I like some of the features on them, not one of them makes it through a year without a problem. Every single one of them has had to either get a new phone all together or replace their phone.

We did a little test in my town this past weekend. We had the Pumpkin Show here in Circleville, Ohio. Mid day Saturday, estimated 80,000 people in a 2 mile square area...
I have AT&T. My phone worked at normal speeds. Data, text, phone calls.
One friend with iPhone 4S on AT&T. All worked, blew my 3GS away.
Another iPhone 4S on Verizon. Calls ok, text took a few minutes, data was nothing.
Motorola Android phone on Verizon. Calls after a couple tries. No text, no data.
HTC Android phone on AT&T. This friend switched when Apple didn't go with iPhone 5. Calls good, text good, data slow until phone kept locking up. Camera also quit working. He's taking it back and getting the iPhone 4S today.
Samsung Android on Sprint with 4G service. Phone did nothing and got hot. :biggrin_2554:

You can have the fastest phone running what ever you think is better than whatever else. The fact is there are 6 manufacturers making 40+ phones running Android software and Apple still out sells them with the iPhone. There is a reason for that.
