    att coverage is shoddy.

ANY 4g phone can talk and surf at the same time. but only if you're in a 4g signal. and unless you're an O/O looking for loads and talking to brokers. you really don't need that feature.

buti guess att can do it with 3g phones. but the coverage isn't as good. and there are lots of complaints for dropped calls even in the major cities.

save yourself the added expense of a card and just use your phone to tether.

and verizon coverage isn't any better then sprint. they each have coverage where the other doesn't. there overall coverage of the country is about the same percentage.

if you really need as much coverage as possible. the best option would be a sprint phone where you get EVERYTHING UNLIMITED for $80. and buy a cheap card with a low allowance plan through verizon. there are tons of apps that allow one to make a phone call using the internet. so if your sprint doesn't have a signal. and your verizon card does. just tether the sprint phone to the verizon card and use whatever app to make an internet phone call.

I think the main thing is the iPhone is only 3g. I have a Verizon 4g MiFi and we have service almost everywhere and Verizon keeps lighting up more 4g areas and expanding current coverage. Huge difference with 4g

I have had the verizon mi-fi for about 2 weeks now, and have been coast to coast twice, and I havent seen anything less than 3G yet. I havent tested it far from an interstate yet.

For the guy asking about att, I have one of their dumb phones, and their coverage is excellent, even out in the sticks.

My wife had an iPhone and we broke down in Nebraska. She had been with ATT for 18 years. After three days she got a message from ATT that if she did not stop using her phone out of network they were going to cancel her service. She now has the Droid Razor from Verizon and loves it.

With a 4G Verizon phone, you can be on the web and a call at the same time.

I've had a separate internet source since 2003 (tethered dedicated phone back then) and I don't see a reason to have a separate hotspot these days. Mine is gone when the contract is up on my Moto Xoom. A 4g phone will do everything you need it to.
