I'm planning on having a windshield mount for my Ipod in the truck when I go out over the road. Is there anywhere on the windshield that I cannot mount it by the FMCSA regulation? I tried to find it myself in the regulation but, no dice.

I've been told "Not supposed to have anything below 5 inches from the top and nothing on the bottom.

Just keep it on the bottom left corner of the windshield.

There is probably a space on your dash to do a "magnetic mount setup" ... look in the automotive section at Walmart.Ford L8000 Thanks this. -

But as you insinuate: to each their own. -
GPS in bottom left corner for me too. Easier setup and access, and not intrusive to line of sight

I mount mine on the middle of the passenger side windshield about 6 inches up from bottom and far enough to the right that it's not blocking my hood mounted spot mirror.

There's an FMCSA reg on windshield obstructions and what area must remain clear. I'm not going to bother to look it up because I don't have anything mounted to my windshield, but you should if you're going to. I have always mounted my GPS and phone to the dash face and they have worked just fine. My current truck is the exception as it has an integrated GPS and bluetooth.

I actually have my iPod velcroed to the far right edge of the dash, to the right of the air bag dump and interlock switches. I hate various wires hanging down, but that's just me.
