Hey folks,
I was just saying I don't ever deliver to New York, however I will be driving THROUGH NY Saturday, heading north to Manchester, New Hampshire. Any recommendations on which roads to use? The gps has me going 95 straight shot til I hit the exit 1C for 87N in NY. 87 North to 84E to 90E to 93N... Sound about right? Or are the turnpikes between 87 and 84 a no go for commercial vehicles? 53' dry van....
Ironically I am going through New York

Yes that's the best route by far. Even the locals wouldn't go over the GW bridge. Why would anyone go that way with the tolls being sky high. Plus the traffic.
I used to pickup OJ out of the NJ docks and head up that way. And always went around as in I-87 to I-84 it was only about 33 miles further with less hassles. The toll roads in MA aren't too bad, reasonable cost of tolls before you get to where you need to be in NH.
good luck.Tennesseahawk Thanks this. -
Am I reading this wrong but if he's going 95 to 87 he is going over the GW. I mean I don't go up that way much anymore but I always took 287 around across the Tappen Zee as the toll was less then back onto 95 avoiding the city then up 91 to 84 to 495 to 93.I'm sure its not the best route but it was ok going and as I said I'm in the NE maybe once a year.

might make a difference if we knew where he is starting from

I drive the GW bridge weekly, it is by far the fastest route. If you don't want to deal with the Bridge or the Bronx you can avoid it altogether by using Rt17. After you go through the north gate of the NJTP take the exit for I80 west. Stay in the local lanes. Then exit onto rt17 north. This will take you to I 287 towards the Tappanzee bridge and then back to I95. Follow i95 north to New Haven, CT and get on I91 north to I84 to I495

Yes 95 directly to 87 will run you over the GWB which isn't bad late at night. 287 to 87 to 84 and so on is what you want or if I am on the NJTP late at night I will take it to 80W over to 17N and on up to 87 when I am headed towards Albany

I am starting in North Carolina. Taking 95N....

Goldsboro NC to Pembroke NH

if your running 95 just stay on it no big deal the hype is worse then reality
after your in conn take 91 to 84 to mass pike 290 to 495 and finally 93 north'olhand Thanks this. -
Petes got it right & if you've never been cross the GWB....chances of you gettin off on 87 r slim&none...by the time you get out from under the apts&realize there r 2lanes of cars to ur right tryin to fly by....well anyway....
Now ifn you wanna avoid a #### load if bs&tolls....run 95 n to Southside of DC...take 495 around the WEST side...to 270 (marked Frederick md....splits to LEFT jus past Potomac md line)
270 will become US15 when it crosses I70....follow 15 N into Pa...then take I581to I81N...Follow 81N to 78East...into Jersy...exit 29 I287---follow north all the way into NY...it dumps u out on 95N just s of the CT line
..then 95-91-84-90-290-93
Tappan Zee bridge only toll you have goin that way....less than 35 miles further&over $100 cheaper.....mnmover Thanks this.
