Hello, My business is based in Oregon but we also do business in Idaho. I am wondering if it is possible to register in both states because in Oregon I can register as exempt for $8 (drilling rig) and in Idaho I would have to pay full fee. I registered with IRP/IFTA this year because I had another truck so I registered them both. I recently got rid of the other truck and only have the drill rig now. They want to charge me $1200 to renew. This includes $744 in foreign fees. I don't travel to any of the states that they consider "foreign". Why do I have to pay this? Do I get a refund next year if I didn't travel to those states? Or do they just keep that money? Also I am confused as to why we pay taxes on mileage and then pay again at renewal on mileage. What are these fees for exactly?

I think this is a question better asked in the owner-operator questions forum.

Are you operating just in those 2 states? You may be axle to get just 2 state registrations (2 plates).
-
Yes we only operate in Idaho and Oregon. That is what I was wondering, if it is even allowed to register in just two states....

I have two plates on my truck. One is for intrastate (that’s still active) and second is irp (from different state) that I’ve got after intrastate one.

If you get just regular state registration for both states, I don’t think you have to worry for ifta after that.
