OK did my IPR (mileage in each state) paperwork this morning...a real PIA. is there a better way of keeping track of miles? I'm leased to a carrier, I run their DOT and IFTA, But I still maintain my DOT# and thats what I'm filing the IRP under, wouldn't my carrier have that info? I didn't call them to ask....
Yes I run my own base plate, I own the truck and trailer. (with the bank LOL) My cab card is in my name and my DOT #

If you have a qualcomm or Electronic Logging Device in your truck, the company will have that info. I always just wrote down my mileage each time I crossed a state line. That way I had my own records.
NoBigHurry Thanks this. -
ELD should have reports option where you can look state mileage.
Trucker GPS can give same report.
IFTA -
I use my Garmin trucker gps.
I just have it on when ever I am in motion.
It records every thing automatically.
Then when I am ready I bring it in to my wife and she downloads the reports to her computer.NoBigHurry and Trucking in Tennessee Thank this. -
Wait.
You have your own plate, and your cab card is under your own name but you don't have it under the IRP under the contract of the carrier you're leased to?
I would run under their IRP permit, you can still have the plate under your name but I would make them to the tracking and paper work. -
If you're already recording IFTA then all you have to do is add all of the figures together at the end and that is your IRP.
I would think the company you're running for would be doing all of that but I could be wrong. -
The IRP account is always in the plate holder name regardless of who you're leased to. It's the IFTA account that you can't to be under for the carrier you're leased to.
The carrier can't have an IRP account in a state they don't have a physical business presence in or personally live in. -
Are you leased onto a carrier or do you have your own authority?

OP. Aren't you doing your daily trip sheets? It's pretty much just add and input after that. There's been times when I forgot to write them down but you can make up for that if you know your starting mileage and use truckrouter.com. Also, Truxtrax has a built in mileage calculator that records all miles including logging of state crossings. Tons of GPS options and apps as well. Many for free or close to it if you just want to track yourself.
