I just received my IRP renewal forms and started going through them ,I only have 9,525 miles for the year from July 2014 to June of 2015.This is my first year owning the truck and just started in May 2015.The web site says I will owe over $1800 ! to renew, can this be right?
I paid $1200.00 in April when I registered the vehicle.

Read the forms what time frame they want your actual miles from. Probably you weren't in business and so are using the state's estimated miles. What state?

The $1800.00 was based on these states

That doesn't matter. What matters is the quarters they are asking for your actual miles from. If you weren't in business you will be using their average estimates for 48 states and paying for that. Next time you do IRP you will be using actual miles.

*edited* Best advice would be to check with your state IRP office. It is possible you screwed up and are paying too much.

Ok, I just saw where you edited and added this. I ran into the same thing when I renewed online a couple of years ago. In TN a plate is about $1,500+/-. Using their website and incorrectly entering info my renewal price came out to $2,500! So I had to call the *friendly* people at the state IRP office and they got the mess straightened out - plate ended up costing $1,400.

I just looked up the bill again and it says I owe the state of Iowa $900.00 for driving 4400 miles there.I will be calling them Monday.

Everybody needs to visit the *friendly* folks at the IRP office in Nashville one time before they retire from trucking.
