$10 an hour for local trucking regardless if it's the South or not is horrible anyway you slice it.

Ok folks, I've had to edit two posts so far that were out of line. Try to be a little more constructive and less offensive/political. Kthnxbye.

If you can make it on 10 bux an hour, I'd say go for it. It sounds like you need the hometime. But that is low.
I am home every day, work 5AM, til about 3PM, never touch a weekend, and make $18.00, plus a couple of bonuses. OT after 40.

Depends how important home time is! Does your wife work too? Is your rent more than 1/4 of your monthly pay? Overtime?
Pretty hard for a new driver to get a local job. Here 15.00 an hr is about normal, and some pay up to 23.00 an hr.
If your happy with the job and it pays the bills then it will also likely lead to a better job later on. Darned few new drivers get away with not going long haul. Best to you...

Yes but Las Cruces is on the border to Mexico where theres the real money. I'd jump the border, but Mexico would just put me in Prison.

some from down south should try living on $10 up here in the north, where rents can be a mere $1,000 per month no utilities...

Here is my take, Yes it sucks but I took a job last fall at $10 and hour, I kept seeing the place hiring for months so I checked it out. I have been off the road for 8 years, so I thought it might be my only in and I wanted to beat the industry saying I cant get a job without schooling lol. A guy road with me to another plant with a tough backing spot I put it right in and I was hired and on my own the rest of the time. I drove like I never got out of a truck, The trucks and trailer were total junk and I ended up quitting so I didn't mess up my clean record they tried to give me a raise but I left, sometimes I wish I would of stayed. If you want to drive again go for it, maybe youll get offered a better job.
