that is very ####ty pay I know, but even at that no, that would be around 2-2.5k a month after taxes, here you could live comfortably on that and its not a bad area

some companies pay you after 2 hours, when you bump the dock...ok..what if after say the 2nd hour they load you up in 20 minutes. what is the pay for waiting then..??

you waited 2 hours, 20 minutes, and got crap for it.. your paycheck dwindles. best thing to do as an OTR driver, is to never start dividing your pay into your hours.

That's true because it's just going to make you angry when you do so. Not trying to beat down OTR here but when you compare how much you make for how long you are away from home between OTR and Local it's no shocker that you make more driving local. Although for the OP that might not be the case since he will only make $10 an hour.

Brother, the wage is indeed too cheap for the services that you will be providing. Driver's were making $12 per hr plus benefits in the 80's. So in reality if you adjust for inflation you should be making $33.75 per hr plus benefits today. I know that it is indeed cheaper in the South, so you could most likely cut that in half and that would really be the proper wage.

Here's the deal, you need to be close to home, and while $10 per hour is not the greatest it is better then nothing. Take the job and when your wife gets to feeling better, and things are more stable on the home front then make your move away to a better paying job. I may not personally want to take a job that pays that wage but then again I remember when I was a single father, just out of the Army and the best job I could find paid $8 per hour, and that was here in Missouri in the late 90's. I took the job, worked hard, kept my head above water, and a year later got a job that paid $15 per hour.

Good luck, and God Bless you and your family.

well I figure that would be a bad company to work for
many of the more reputable companies will pay you a decent amount each stop you make and/or pick up you make.
