Not being able to drive a vehicle, due to its layout being three pedals is a hindrance. It is not a strength.
Is $104,000 a year a decent w2 salary for an experienced otr reefer driver

Yes It is decent money for a good decent job. If the truck and trailer are fairly new then your driver pretty much has it made. I pulled reefer for about 13 years and I have been promised more than 100k a year before but never got it. I have pulled reefer even for as little as 35cpm before the pandemic and rates went way up. Now100k is very attainable but I wouldnt expect too much more. And by the way, I'm available. spotless mvr all 15yrs driving. No tickets. And I also hate automatics.

I've seen plenty of drivers with long hoods and old trucks with manual transmissions that can't back at the truck stops. Maybe I'm spoiled by having an I-Shift and the ability to use manual mode. I can do pretty much anything with that transmission that I could do with a manual. The only down side is that it takes slightly longer for the gears to go in. The upside is that I will never miss a downshift going up a hill. I can feather the clutch by barely pressing the accelerator, and if I do that for too long it activates clutch protection mode so I don't burn it out as easily. There is a method in the I-Shift manual that describes how to rock the truck back and forth. I have yet to have any problems with that transmission, other than a leaking line to the cooler.
But with that said, I would not recommend getting a Volvo truck. Great transmissions, but poor dealer service and communication on the average. -
