I'm assuming you've already made the trip, but for anyone wondering about this, route 74 is NOT a good alternative to 322. The worst part of 322 right now is the construction north of Seven Mountains. But even that's not bad.

What's unfortunate is prior to the turnpike getting outrageous with the tolls, you didn't see nearly the riff-raff on 322. You'd hardly ever see a mega carrier up there. It was a beautiful, quiet ride all the way to State College.

I like 322....ita a good rode to ride through much of Pennsylvania. I always grab some tacos at Rutters on the way up to State College, but the other drivers already said it. I second their responses.

There's a little truck stop in Milroy. I have some very fond memories of that place. It's an Arby's or some crap now.

    Shhhhhh! Don't tell people!

Also there's a bottleneck at the bottom of the hill between State College and 7 sisters. On most days, it just kinda sucks, and the next 7-10 miles are 2 lane farm road. But on a game day in season? holiday weekend? Ugh.

They're doing *something* now where the old liquor shack used to be, it's kinda scary narrow now. (Construction zone) should be nice when it's done but I wonder where they're gonna build the next segment. As it stands they'll lengthen the 4 lane section about 3 miles but does that mean there'll be more bottlenecks in the future at the "new" terminus?

I usually jump off 322 at the bottom of the mountain, on 144 north. Then hit 45 west back to 322. Avoids all the B.S. in the construction.

Perhaps we shouldn't discuss these things here, while 322 is still a nice way to travel. Don't need it screwed up by the 64 mph mega carriers...

I remember going to State College parties back when the road was two lane just east of Lewistown. We used to refer to that section as Death Valley

Sorry megas have been falling into the ditch at the bottom of the mountain trying to climb it since the 90's whenever it snows.

I was under the impression that was verboten. Actually had a pickup over there somewhere. Took the long way around.

Considering some of the roads I've taken, I wonder what exactly the issue is? I'd like a nice weekend drive up there to scout it out.
