I use mirrors all the time for backing. Hauled and backed a 36 ft 5th wheel trailer for years. Check them all the time. I need time to learn floating gears and re-learning to not hit the clutch all the time. Not ready for the test.

So you don't need any pointers then do you.

Every truck is different. When you take the test they don't want you floating gears and you need to look at them mirrors about every second.

Knowing everything around you at all times is what they want to see.

And all test sites are different in what they want.

I took the test in Chicago, if I recall you live in the south and a test site in your town. Lol I may be mistaken, not the first. I rented a truck for $350 no practice but 30 minutes in the morning for backing.

    Nailed it!

I also have almost 6yrs experience.

    That might have helped.

When I first started I teamed with a guy 70 years old, I was 24 years old . He was fine and I never had a problem sleeping in the bunk . We were both newbies

Dude old as dirt threw two big ### bags of trash out right in front of my rig while I was in the shower....

I was nice and returned them to him.

    It ain't just young guys.
I'm 23, don't use alot of tech, only thing suction cupped to my dash is a dashcam and a cb.... I use turn signles..... list goes on. I'm getting tired of stereotyping on my generation....

For what it's worth, a guy must a been mid 50s #### near ran me off the road becuase he was texting....

    He drives for navajo..

To the op, good luck on getting your cdl sounds like most the hoops you gotta jump through are just insurance related

You need to get your CDL asap whether you decide to drive your 2nd truck part time or not. When your driver quits 300 miles from the terminal or gets sick or whatever, you need to be able to get that truck and deliver the load. Get your CDL and let it age like fine wine. Lots of fleet owners that contribute to this forum and most all I know have a CDL.

I suspect that the "dude old as dirt" did not appreciate you returning his bags of trash to him, although, he deserved to get them back.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
