is $75 for crossing into Canada worth it?

If you go into Canada try and get everything you need from the states otherwise you're going to get that monopoly money back. Its very expensive there.Entering from Detroit does have a toll you better ask your company if they reimburse you which im pretty sure they do otherwise they wouldn't get anyone going into Canada.Just how many tolls are we talking?Only toll I ever had to pay was in Detroit.

There is an EZPass lane crossing into Canada via the Peace Bridge. If returning the same way, there's no toll. I don't know what your deal with the scalehouses is - I would say you're much more likely to get pulled in almost anywhere in the States than in Ontario. I get paid $50 per trip, and am happy to do it. For me, everything depends on how quickly my paperwork and manifest(s) are processed; it usually goes very smoothly. If that were to change, I would have to reevaluate whether my compensation is worth the trouble.

Don't be afraid of going to Canada. It's no big deal.

Crossing into Ontario from ny you pay cash or ez pass it. Free on into ny. Windsor Detroit ambassador bridge is all electronic now does not accept ez pass at this time. There are cameras that will take your licence plate picture, weigh in motion scales also, and they send a bill to your company. No cash necessary there. Only toll road is the 407, easy enough to stay off it. Do not go on it unless you have the designated transponder, ez pass is not accepted on the 407. No cash either.

My company pays me 100 to go into Canada and back while reimbursing all incurred expenses running into Western Canada and It's still not worth it. I wouldn't even consider it going into Eastern Canada especially from the NYC area for less than 250.

Their is many things you have to do to function optimally in Canada. They must be maintained as long as you have told the company you are willing to go to Canada you are on Standby.
1.Cell phone plane will cost you an extra 15 bucks a month minimum
2.Canadian currency on hand or you will be spending a fortune if you pay CAD prices with USD
3.Passport on hand at all times
4.Security inspection sheets on hand and blank border crossing sheets to get back into the US empty
5.Memorized all the processes for crossing the border. One mistake and your #########

I forgot to scan in the BOL's to dispatch once so they could scan them into the Broker. I spent 3 hours getting that issue resolved at the border. I hadn't been to Canada in over 2 months and got rusty on the procedure.

You can't keep a firearm with you or even a large knife as long as your on call to Canada. You technically can't have countless other things in the truck like fruit and meat when your crossing the border.

Even though my Company will reimburse me for all cost it typically takes 2-4 weeks at a minimum to do so and requires jumping through many hoops then going back and making sure they reimbursed you like they said they would.

In Eastern Canada towards Quebec the street signs aren't even in English and the address system in Canada I find to be rather perplexing.

If i was running into Canada frequently and nothing east of SK then it could be a good deal for the 100 i get right now. What your talking about though for only 75 i would laugh and decline their offer immediately.

you would be wise to stick with your american weights any ways as it must be legal when u take it back south.
    but for rule of thumb

    12
    37500
    37500

and the steers are like most places with letting you slide on the weight.

****SPREAD AXLES ARE NOT WELCOME OUTSIDE OF ONTARIO AND QUBEC**** <--- i see alot of you guys busted on this comming into manitoba
$you get $75 i get $10 to cross south. get your customs undercontrol and welcome.

you are mandated under canadain HOS just like we are under yours.
    13 hrs driving
    14 hrs day
16 hrs period to get it done.
24 hrs off duty required every 14 days (this is important if you plan on running recap hours)
    36 hrs for reset.
    8/2 split is allowed.

if your company cant agree on if u have I-pass and what rules you need to be following when in canada i suggest you find your self an new carrier

8/2 only allowed if you take the 2 during the day first then the 8 sleeper after ... we do not have an 8 hour break to put the day "on pause" so to speak ... also if you take 2 in sleeper and 8 at the end of the day, your new shift starts at the end of the 8, not the first 2. also the 2 can consist of any sleeper or off duty time in increments of no less than 30 minutes to total at least 2 hours. you could technically do 0.5 and then 9.5. or 0.75 and 9.25. but you couldn't do say 2.5 and 7.5, the second portion has to be at least 8.

I used to enjoy running in Canada. I used a debit or credit card rather than cash. I find that I had a better exchange rate using plastic. I did use U.S. dollars to leave tips. At the time the exchange rate was about $0.54 to the Canadian dollar. I think the last time I was in Canada, the exchange rate was about $0.60. I also like the Canadian hos. I did have to watch the hos when I crossed back into the U.S.

You can stop the 14 hr clock too. You can extend it to 16 hrs by going off duty for at least 30 minutes at a time. Oh almost forgot 13 hrs driving time allowed.

$75 is more than most companies pay. And IRT isn't a bad company overall. Alot of quality veteran drivers employed there.
