XRS & Drivewyze are putting software on phones & tablets for scale bypass systems. This is called BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). This software has the possibility of tracking your phone and everything you do with it and everywhere you go, 24/7, at work and at home.
Companies save money and download cost of maintenance to drivers pockets.
Any stories or experiences with this?
Is a trucking company using your phone for scale bypass?

I would NEVER download any app like that...! Crazy man, what's coming next?

If you have gps, 3g or 4 g and you have a smartphone turned on, you can already be tracked.
MaryCetane+ and fr8te_sh8ker Thank this. -
even the 1x phones can be tracked. to which apparently they still sell. as my aunt just got a new FREE phone from verizon.
911 legislation passed by congress a few years back. if you can't give your location. 911 needs to find you somehow. -
It's coming...just trying to find out how wide spread it is...

Yes, that is true....and I use those features to my advantage...BUT, I have the option of turning it off too. It is the same with EOBR's....make it choice, not mandatory....IMHO

911 tracking is a good idea....but get that Obama legislated all new phones to be turned on for alerts such as Amber Alerts and other things they deem important, they forgot to tell everyone you can turn it off. Choices...don't let them be taken away cause they won't ever give them back.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Hello everyone. Full disclosure: My name is Marc, and I'm the Customer Experience Manager here at Drivewyze. We can appreciate Driver's concerns about privacy, being tracked, etc. In fact, that's probably the MAIN concern that we hear from Commercial Truck Drivers. So, I'd like to take the opportunity to clarify that the only time our mobile app communicates with any other system while you're driving is for the purposes of giving you alerts related to upcoming weigh stations, and to find out if you can get a bypass at that site or not. We don't know where you drive in between sites, and we do NOT provide Law Enforcement with any time-related data that describes when you passed a weigh station. So, there's no way for them to compute average speeds or to give you a speeding citation. That was a very specific, intentional, deliberate design choice we made with our system, for the expressed desire to allay anyone's fears about using our service. I acknowledge that you didn't specifically ask that question, but it's one of the more common "un-expressed questions" that we know about, so I thought I'd share. If you have any other questions or concerns you'd like to discuss, feel free to contact me directly atsupport@drivewyze.com, or at 1-888-988-1590.

My only question is, what happens if an employer insists I have this (on my personal phone) and then if I have my phone on me during personal time and I pass a weigh station?
Will this lead to violations with my logs? (It says here you passed this scale on Saturday, but your logs say you were off duty.)
And I could see a bigger headache if you added some sort of EZPASS function.
ie. Paying 18 wheeler rates to take a car though a toll booth, or accidentally billing the company for a personal trip, or even double billing, (having both the EZPass and the iPhone on you at the same time) -
Just remember to EXIT the Drivewyze app when you get out of the truck and most of the above concerns are moot. I'm on E-logs, so location tracking resulting in log violations isn't a concern for me. And as for any other concerns, if your phone is turned on and not on airplane mode, you're constantly being triangulated between towers. Not quite as accurate as GPS, but the algorithms for it are much more advanced now, and you'd be surprised at just how accurate it actually is.
Using Drivewyze, I often get the bypass signal where PrePass isn't even accepted, or where the PrePass is "locked on red", not turned on, or most trucks are being pulled in.
