its part of a cdl-a . no endorsement needed

if memory serves it is taken for granted that you will be air brake qualified. If you are not then that will be designated on your license as a restriction. For example some smaller vehicles that require a CDL only so that the driver can have Hazmat endorsement. Their license would not be class A, and would show a restriction not air brake qualified.

ok it had me worried the license branch made a mistake

Yes its just a restriction not technically an endorsement, there are a quite many decent sized straight trucks that you need to have a cdl-b or cdl-c to drive but they have hydraulic or electric hydraulic brakes, so the drivers do not need that test.

Like they said it'll be under restriction if you don't have it. Alot of guys around here have class A's without airbrakes. You need it if you're hauling a trailer over 10,000 lbs. with a pickup. ie. a dually hauling a 30' enclosed three axle trailer.
