    I gotta admit its down right hilarious.
    Especially when the driveways are a mile wide and it makes absolutely no difference. And you still hear'em on the radio like you've committed a capital crime.

    It seems that most drivers who leave reviews are the typical sidewalk sissy types that complain about everything. "Oh this is a horrible truckstop! They didn't sell my favorite flavor of yogurt!" And to many of them, once the fatboy parking spots are gone, the lot is full. I stop at the mom and pops, and I look and see what restaurants are nearby. Works for me.

    I don’t like the anonymity. Anyone can update anything without signing their name to it. I’ve noticed Sunday nites there’s 6 inspection stations around queens area that right about 8pm all suddenly show as open, as someone nearby has updated them. Within a half hour or so they all go back to closed. 6 of the last 7 Sunday nites. I run that area enough to know which ones will never be open Sunday nights. People don’t have to put their names on it, so some use it to mess with others.

    DOT will update them to closed when they're open. Don't trust the app for that sort of info.

    Them n jokers. I passed one closed for the day the other day: was updated every 2 minutes for the last 5 hours as open. They close every day at 12:30. I flip it to closed-immediately 10 updates in 1 minute that they’re open.

    Can’t comprehend that level of intelligence.

    TP is a handy tool for the trip plan. But not so otherwise. (I don’t think leaving phone in an app constantly a good thing. A second phone, maybe, but not my personal device). I refer you also to the above comments on the “free” app penalties.

    Knowing my stops in advance is what makes a good day. All of them. For any reason. Thus, plan.

    On the fly trip changes often don’t work out well. Best avoided. Something a driver hopefully learns early in his career.

    X1 Heavys comments about a plan based in an average mph is to the point (as are his other comments; you new guys should note intelligent comments whether his or someone else’s and make it a point to search that man’s posts. So as to learn).

    I may or may not reach my desired farthest point that day. Thus a fallback of two choices for the day’s destination. TP good for this.

    The reviews are funny enough. And helpful given context is not limited to TP.

    Truckstop Bathroom remodel with outdoor toilets high on my list of avoidances. Same for re-paving parking lot. Or install of new fuel island pumps. I’m glad to be warned.

    And I’m always happy to learn about a restaurant next door. Might be what I “need” (ha!)

    And those reviews are an interesting way of learning more about drivers in general. Ran across one review where it was obvious that a shift-end 40-oz was that man’s daily priority. Affected his truckstop choice. Hadn’t occurred to me this was a potential DAILY trip plan guideline. (For a 34 reset, yeah, I’d like access to a decent sports bar, sure).

    TP is useful. But not to the point of using as moving map. A weather map overlay that can override being hidden in the background of an all-around program (with yet other features) that’s useful. Make such a thing good enough and I’ll spring for “more” than what Garmin gives me. In the meantime the use of several apps as part of the trip plan process works well. On — In — Done — Off.

    Downloading all brain work to a computer kills what is gained from experience. As much of that is observational, it works against being “good” as a truck driver.

    As context, if I had to choose between CB and a particular app for the specific trip, that’s not a choice. If experience hasn’t taught you this (what you need to bring to the table to get a useful answer across the radio), keep an open mind about what’s good to have along.

    I’ll go further in this point that it’s been my admiring observation that among groups not known for literacy (thus map skills) there can exist a well-ordered use of CB that is obviously taught. Handed down. Respectful. I generally encounter it in large metro areas (though not all).

    It’s not easy to get a “decent” transceiver setup (expect $500 for a known good set of gear; I have a recent post with a list) it’s real time. Not subject to someone else’s profit-taking.

    When (not “if”) the Internet goes down for an extended period (I expect three days for the driver-only problems to set in; not shipper/receiver related problems) you may wish you’d gold-plated the transceiver $$. (I have gear still in use 20-years later).

    Where and how to get fuel. What intersections or shortcut roads are blocked to expedite local flows. Accident locations. Etc. Things, completely new things, that will arise as a function of disrupted information flows.

    Expect that the Guard will be called out in some areas. A nice test for the minions of The Cabal. How to keep their people fed & watered. Without Deplrables either making a profit or compromising “security”. If you don’t think theire are those salivating at boosting their careers with this, guess again. (Ask your Army buddies what it’s like at, “the tip of the spear”).

    To that extent that 11-meter is blocked will tell me where or whether I’m to be exposing myself. Those not on the scene have no relevant input. Not compared to gut feelings. A CB (always on) gives context to what’s weird to you, but normal for locals.

    One might review the story of, “Little Red Riding Hood”, for the deeper implications. Language is mankind’s greatest tool.
