The overhead expenses today for a truck isn't worth it especially with the economy downfall into a recession as we speak. However, if that is one's only option they believe they need to do their due diligence before moving forward with it. Never lease from the company you're working for because that is a guarantee for disaster. Think about the cons, the own the truck and a lease is basically a rental on their terms costing you probably one and a half or double when it's done, they control what freight you get as a gatekeeper with their dispatch so if you piss them off you're not eating those weeks, when something goes wrong mechanically it's cost you to fix it so you're double down (no money in because the truck isn't running and money out to fix it) etc...
Yes, leasing a truck through your own means through a bank or financial institution equates to some of these things too. However, you can pickup and leave and control your outcome better because the capital is on you regarding your financial lender. This way the potential to own it outright is in your favor and the work that goes along with doing so.
Is becoming an owner operator after getting fired for having an accident the only course of action?
